American Riviera Bank Supports Magoo’s Shoes at Annual Shoe Giveaway

American Riviera Bank was proud to sponsor Magoo’s Shoes, a local nonprofit that hosts an annual event providing children in underserved communities with brand new shoes! This year’s annual shoe gifting extravaganza was held in July at the Deckers Brand Showcase. KEYT was on hand to talk to kids and organizers about the excitement of the day.

Magoo’s Shoes, started more than ten years ago at Washington Elementary School, initially served about thirty children. Thanks to community sponsors and the efforts of Magoo’s Shoes Executive Director, Simon Dixon, the event has grown and now provides new shoes to hundreds of local school-aged children.

In collaboration with various nonprofits and community sponsors, Magoo’s Shoes were able to shuttle in hundreds of elementary school children from fourteen different local schools. Each of these children, who are individually selected based on financial need and merit, are gifted a pair of shoes of their choice, absolutely free. Part of the special experience includes getting personal attention from store employees. Each child was individually attended to by a Decker’s employee as they selected their favorite pair of shoes - from sparkly to colorful to sporty. Based on the child’s interests, the employees help them select from hundreds of different styles and brands including Hoka, UGG, Teva, Sanuk and Deckers Xlab footwear.

Simon Dixon, of IdeaEngineering.com said that the rule of Magoo's shoes is, “any pair in store.” and the staff and volunteers all saw fit to deliver!

“We love sponsoring such meaningful events. The Magoo’s Shoes’ initiative is not about shoes,” says Joanne Funari, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, “it’s about making these children feel valued, and providing the resources they need to build confidence and individuality.”
